Division: Boston West on Lincolnshire County Council and

Boston District Independent (BDI)

I was elected to my Boston West seat on Lincolnshire County Council in 2009, as an Independent Councillor. Boston born and bred, I was educated at Boston Tower Road school and Boston Grammar school.

My first job was at County Hall, Boston, in the Education Department of Holland County Council. This was followed by teaching at Boston Kitwood Boys school.  An army career followed where I rose to the rank of Major.  I served in Canada, Germany, Northern Ireland and Hong Kong, where I became a linguist in Chinese [Cantonese].

When I retired from the army I was appointed to create a new Department of a Further Education college. My Occupational Selection Department gave basic education and training in twelve work areas.  I was then promoted to the post of Vice Principal of Hugh Baird College of Technology, a Further and Higher education college on Merseyside.

I have been elected and experienced local government at parish, rural district, Boston Borough [district], and county council level.  As an independent member on Lincolnshire County Council’s Highways, Transport & Technology Scrutiny Committee, I have a particular interest in the Highway problems faced by Boston. I am also a Governor of Boston Staniland Primary & Nursery School, and a County Council representative on Boston’s Woods Trust.

I believe that Local Government should be non-party political.  It should be focused on service to local people, rather than be manipulated by national political parties and their dogma.

My role is to fight for  Boston, and to help my constituents to improve their lives.  To do this, I will help them with difficulties and problems they face.  I cannot promise to solve all of those challenges – only to do my best.
